The Observation
In October 2022, the Russian federation launched its full-scale invasion which went on throughout the winter, seriously damaging the energy infrastructure of Ukraine causing a disaster in terms of access to electricity and heat for the most vulnerable civilian populations. As a result, we received a large number of requests from civilian institutions such as orphanages, hospitals and temporary displacement centers asking for help with access to energy.
What we did
Providing small diesel generators (less than 3 kW) was greatly appreciated on the ground because they are light and easily transportable. Not only do these generators allow people to recharge their phones, which is essential to keep in touch with relatives and gain access to information in blackout areas, but they also provide electricity for pumps and water balloons, to maintain a basic level of living conditions.
Intermediate diesel generators (7 kW) are necessary for remote or cut-off dwellings, even in large cities, as power cuts are recurrent and sometimes on a very long period.
Higher power generators (over 11 kW) are useful for orphanages, hospitals and reception centers. Many structures, especially medical facilities, cannot do without electricity. The only solution is to provide generators directly to these institutions on site and by doing so, we help prevent patients from losing access to medical machines on which their lives depend.
The Needs
Being present on the ground, we have observed that conventional generators are sometimes ill-suited to the needs of the populations residing near combat zones. This is often due to difficulties in accessing diesel and the associated risks of travel. We have recognized the numerous advantages of the ecoflow system, particularly its ability to operate autonomously. As a result, our association has set the objective of providing and installing removable solar panel kits in over 2,000 vulnerable households. The aim is to empower these families with access to essential energy, ensuring their survival in decent conditions in the event of new attacks. This initiative not only addresses the challenges of energy provision but also contributes to sustainable and eco-friendly solutions for communities in need.
